General Principles and Grant Conditions
The American Ceramic Circle from time to time will award grants-in-aid for original research in the history of ceramics. The grants will range from two hundred dollars ($200) to five thousand dollars ($5,000). Research under these grants must be based on primary source materials, and a subsequent paper must be submitted to the American Ceramic Circle. The paper may be selected as a topic for an illustrated lecture at a future ACC November symposium and/or as a candidate for inclusion in the organization's scholarly publication, the American Ceramic Circle Journal.
The purpose of these grants is to assist scholars by providing funds for some of the expenses of research. Such expenses may include the costs of photography, photocopies, and travel.
Monies received under these grants are not to be used for:
1. Subsidies for publications
2. Purchase of equipment or books; purchase of any photographic material not
required
for use in the grantee's project
3. Travel to conferences or meetings
4. Expenses of the grantee's family
5. Underwriting the costs of photography for museum-owned or
institutionally-owned
ceramics in one's own institution.
When a grant is made to a student or staff member of a museum, university, library, or other learned institution, it is expected that said institution would encourage and facilitate the work done under the grant. No grantee shall be an employee or agent of the American Ceramic Circle.
The grantee must offer the American Ceramic Circle the primary right to publish the research in its Journal, though other grants may have been provided. However, the decision to publish the article and the time of publication will be determined by the Editor of the Journal. Any publication or presentation before any venue based in whole or in part on research done under this grant shall acknowledge the support provided by the American Ceramic Circle.
The term of the grant is one year and successful applicants are expected to complete the paper within twelve months of receipt of the grant. Upon completion of the year, additional time may be provided upon demonstration in writing of good cause to the Chairperson of the American Ceramic Circle’s Grants Committee.
The grantee shall provide the American Ceramic Circle with a concise progress report at the end of the grant term together with a detailed itemized account of the expenditure of grant funds and supporting materials, such as receipts. If the grantee fails to comply with the grant conditions, the grantee must repay the grant sum and/or a portion of unused funds received from the American Ceramic Circle.
