ACC Book Award for 2006
The
winner for the American Ceramic Circle book Prize for 2006 is Baroque
Luxury Porcelain: The Manufactories of du Paquier in Vienna and of Carlo
Ginori in Florence. Edited by Johann Kraftner, it is the catalog of the
Liechtenstein Museum's 2005-2006 important
exhibition of the same name. Baroque Luxury Porcelain
stands out as a significant contribution to the study of ceramics. It
is a well-researched, well-written, and lavishly illustrated catalog that
explores the production of two of Europe’s earliest and most important
ceramic manufactories. The catalog not only documents the output of du
Paquier and Ginori, but also explores the important and close connects
between the two factories. For these reasons, Baroque Luxury Porcelain
will be one of the main resources for information on eighteenth-century
European porcelain.
As with last year, the decision of which publication to honor with the ACC Book Award was a difficult one. The runner-up is Jonathan Rickard’s Mocha and Related Dipped Wares, which is the largest and most comprehensive book published on this important and previously under-documented class of English ceramics.
The winner of the American Ceramic Circle Book Award for 2007 will be announced in November 2008 at the ACC Symposium in Baltimore.
